Under-23 athlete Jonte Wright - The ultimate reward

Jonte Wright - NZ Under 23 Bronze medallist

The New Zealand Rowing Foundation is proud to have supported many of our development athletes over the years at Junior and Under-23 level by awarding grants towards tour costs. A huge congratulations to all those New Zealand athletes that competed this year at the Under-23 and Under-19 World Rowing Championships. It is fantastic to see the New Zealand age group athletes back competing on the world stage after so many disruptions over the last two years due to covid.

Jonte Wright, Under-23 Bronze medallist was one of the Under-23 athletes that received a grant towards his tour costs this year.“This was my 3rd year in the Under 23 team but only my first time heading overseas to compete and race against the world due to Covid-19! The last few years of training with no racing have been long, strenuous, and extremely testing on the body + mind; with no clear indication of when I would be able to get a taste of the international rowing world. Luckily 2022 allowed me the opportunity to use the built-up fire in the engine on the racecourse which couldn’t of be done with the special support of the New Zealand Rowing Foundation to get us to Varese, Italy. The men and I in the U23 Mens Quad came back with a Bronze Medal - the ultimate reward for years of hard work that finally paid off and an amazing way to celebrate the first international regatta since Covid-19 - a great end to what was such an epic campaign!”

Your donation is gratefully received so that we can continue to support the next generation of New Zealand rowers as well as the highly prestigious Legacy Programme honouring our elite New Zealand representative rowers.
