ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The Legacy Programme is an initiative created to acknowledge and honour all elite New Zealand rowers who have competed at major international regattas, and an important programme to keep the sport in touch with it’s alumni.

Our New Zealand representatives have been accorded a chronological order and the number of Legacy Medals will keep increasing as new representatives are selected.

All of these representative New Zealand rowers will be progressively invited to receive a commemorative medal saluting their contribution to the history of New Zealand Rowing.

Legacy Medal Citations

The New Zealand Rowing Foundation has already formally presented many Legacy medals to their recipients and will continue to do so at selected special and formal events in the future. The citations of all those that have received their Legacy Medals so far are detailed in alphabetical order below.

'I was completely humbled to receive my RNZ Legacy Medal in Twizel last week. To receive it in the company of legends, my family, all my wider RNZ family and the girls who support me every single day was super super special.'

‘A word of thanks to the Foundation for the wonderful event held at "the Boatshed'. I was honored and surprised to receive my Legacy medal and to re-live those great days of my youth when so many of my compatriots were again there and to reminisce with, especially Richard Tuffin. Congratulations for an excellent and professional occasion.’

Peter Aitchison, New Zealand men's coxed four 1958
