NZRF grant recipient Samantha Voss crowned World Champion

The New Zealand Rowing Foundation were delighted to contribute $15 000 towards the New Zealand Under 23 Rowing team who competed at the 2018 World U23 Rowing World Championships in Poznan, Poland in July last year.

One of the outstanding performers of the team was Samantha Voss who overcame a broken ankle to achieve U23 World Champion status in the womens single scull.

‘The 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Champs is certainly the highlight of my rowing career so far. Winning the single was an incredible experience which I got to share with my parents who came over to watch the event and this made it even more special.

My lead up to this competition certainly wasn’t smooth, with a broken ankle in early 2017 that resulted in 3 months out of the boat and another 2 months on a rehab program. However, this time gave me a new outlook on my rowing and made me more driven to be the best athlete I can be.

I can not thank the New Zealand Rowing Foundation enough for their financial support, both last year and in previous years, without this aid I would not be where I am now and I am so grateful for the assistance.
